The Battle for the Moonbridge

Each swing of a blade, each cast of a spell drew them closer to the caern. Regrouping just short of the entrance they ensured each member of their group was healed and able to make the final race to their escape.

“They’ve blocked the entrance...those who can use their magic to force things from our path group together, work together. Those who can fight, do so!”

The command was issued quickly and with authority, she expected none to argue and for action to be swift. As the group charged forwards, their weapons held tightly within their hands, their weary legs taking them closer to home a glaze of battle fury filled many eyes.

The spell hit the barricade and those in front of it sending them reeling under its impact, scattering the line of demonic beings apart before them. Once more they engaged the enemy thrusting blades through armour, flesh and sinew. Blood pools littered the ground. As a blade was drawn across an enemies throat the spray of blood emitted covered those close by, trails of warm blood creating rivers down their features as they fought for the lives they valued.

Elves, humans, drow, those native to the land and those new to it, all stood side by side fighting for their right to live as they wish.

The demonic beings stood before them, driven by hate and an order incomprehensible to most, to slay any that stood in their path. Features twisted and mangled, minds devoid of any humanity, filled only with pain, hate and the order, the order to reign all under the order of the one whom they followed and to slaughter those who stood in the path.

The sky grew darker as the battle raged. Twisted forms, their hates now gone, released by death scattered across the ground as the group made their way ever closer to the caern.
Sprinting forward, a lone figure, heavily armoured, darted between those that wished her harm, her footing firm as she made the caern and turned.

“Everyone IN NOW!” her commanding voice echoing out across the battle plain. Pausing for a few brief moments to ensure the command was acted upon she inhaled sharply when her gaze fell upon a writhing pile upon the floor, flashes of colour under several demonic beings. Without pause she sprinted forward, her swords in hand, ready to deprive the enemy of limbs and head to ensure his survival. As she drew close a headscarf fell to the ground, familiar in colour and style she snatched it up even as she dropped to her knees as he thrust the now still corpses from his form.

“Get them out now!”her words as swift as the turn she put into her step turning sideways her sword brought up to defend against the demonic blow aimed for herself.

Clearing the path once more she made her way back to the caern and crouched by the wall scribing the symbol upon it that would open their exit from this infernal island.

Moments past, far to many than were safe.

“Hold them back!” the order rang clear as desperate attempts were made to facilitate their escape, the group fending back those that wished to slaughter all where they stood, to ensure the will of their lord was followed. Cries of anguish, pain and desperation carried on the wind as finally a brilliant white light began to grow, swirling before their very eyes the light grew, a swirling tunnel of bright light, through it the image of a great black and silver wolf stood tall and proud.

“EVERYONE THROUGH NOW!”

Standing their ground, holding back the enemy as backward glances ensured the group were making fast their escape two stood side by side blades swinging as maniacal glints shone in their eyes.

“Through now!”

With a swift turn they were through but not they realised alone, demonic beings had crossed the bridge with them and even now, where safety should of reigned a desperate struggle ensued. More than that, two of their own now stood toe to toe engaged in a viscous battle of magics....
